Ramadan is the holy month where Muslims all over the world are encouraged to refrain from food and liquid from dawn to dusk. A time of abstinence, to focus on prayers and reflect upon one’s behavior and life. The point being to demonstrate submission to God and to develop self-control keeping the mind focused on a more spiritual plane.
Fasting is one of Islam's five main pillars.
2. Belief in one God
3. Praying 5 times a day
4. Completing the pilgrimage to Mecca
5. Giving charity or "zakat"
It is mandatory for all Muslims upon reaching puberty, as long as they are healthy. The elderly and chronically ill are exempt from fasting; however, it is obligatoryfor them to feed the poor instead if they possess the financial means.
Recently during Ramadan we had the opportunity to break the fast with our Muslim staff - we have 30% Muslim.
Before breaking the fast orlocally known as ‘Ngabuburit’ we organized some team building games which was fun for the staff to have some down time.
It was a joyous occasion with everyone enjoying the feast and taking the opportunity to have fun and highlight that no matter what religion we are we can be cohesive as a company.
Wishing all our Muslim friends “Selamat Hari Raya Idul Fitri”.
